The Dueling Club - First Meeting (All years)

Jake Mendelind, Head of Gryffindor, School Counselor and Dueling Club teacher, whistled to himself as he drank from his hip flask. Ogden's Oldest Firewhiskey was definitely the best. Rivaled, perhaps, only by Ogden's Finest. Both of them were amazingly good. Jake's Irish blood boiled with joy when he drank it.

With more force than necessary, Jake threw the door to the Dueling Club room on the sixth floor, a massive grin on his face. The rest of the club, from what he could see, was already there. "Good evening, boys and girls!" he greeted happily and practically skipped through the students to the dueling stage that had been set up for them to use.

With a "Hep!" Jake hopped up on the stage and sat down, his legs dangling over the edge as he looked over the students. "Alright, wee boys and lovely girls, this is the first meeting of the year for the Dueling Club! Aren't you all excited? Here, you will be allowed to really let go and just batter each other senseless, and I'm just gonna watch you!

"Now, there is no obligation to come to these club meetings, and it won't affect your grade, but you signed up, so I'm sure you all see the enjoyment in flinging jinxes and curses at each other. Any questions?"

Garrus stood among the others of his year, trying to avoid mingling with the rest of the students from other years as best he could.

There was the sound a door being enthusiastically swung open with unnecessary force and then a tall bald man made his way past the students and leaped up on stage. Garrus couldn't help but notice the Irish accent present on the man on stage. Upon further examination of the man he noticed stables in his eyebrow lots of rings in his ear and what stood out most a bullseye on his forehead.

Garrus thought to himself "Well at least I'll have something to aim for if ever we cross wands"

Crudely smiling he listened to the man as he seemed negligent of student safety. Wondering if he was to get killed, would the teacher simply give or deduct points from the opposing house or merely move on. Garrus could help but wonder how he was going to make it through the year .... alive

Marie stood lazily with one hand on her hip and the other twirling a dark curl, She watched without suprise as their jolly professor jumped upon the stage and introduced the club.

She noticed Garrus standing a few steps infront of her and couldnt help the amusing thought of hitting him with some hefty hexes. A smirk stretched across the slytherins face and she raised her hand to ask a question.

"I have a question." She smiled innocently "How far can our spells go? I mean no unforgivables obviously, but..."

Jake smiled when he heard the girl speak up. He was glad someone had asked at least one question. "Excellent question!" Jake said happily. "Actually, I don't really like setting up rules for a duel. If you were to encounter a Dark Wizard, he wouldn't agree to any rules, anyway. Therefore, the only rules I'll set up are as follows: No killing, and no overly Dark spells."

Jake grinned rather viciously. Being a Master Duelist, he was very interested in seeing what these little brats could do. Therefore, he came up with what to do next on the spot. "Alright, now I want you all to pair up! Find a partner, and start dueling when I give the signal!"

This was going to be so much fun!

Upon hearing this Garrus lit up like a Christmas tree. He Scanned the room for possible Duel Partners. Turning around he spotted Marie And thought to himself, how much fun would it be to cast the Avis spell and summon a flock of birds and then cast the Oppugno spell and watch as the flock of birds peck away at her. Whilst she was preoccupied cast the Rictusempra charm, to render her helplessly tickled and flailing around on the ground all the while the birds would be attacking. Still there was the problem of getting her to be his partner.

Garrus thought to himself "I'm sure she'd much rather Duel someone else, still wouldn't hurt to ask her"

Garrus Approached Marie quickly obscuring her view of everyone else I the room and grabbing her attention. A smile crept across his face while he thought of something witty to say, then opened his mouth and uttered the words.

"Would you be up to losing a duel against me"

Marie chuckled and lifted one eyebrow. Did the Gryffindor really think he could win against me?, Smiling darkly the brunette stepped forward into his personal space and said

"Of course, but I dont think it will be good for your ego if you lose to me...again" and with that she almost unnoticably lifted her wand and murmered.

"Tarantallegra!"

"Tarantallegra!"

Noticing his uncontrollable urge to dance around like a tarantula, Garrus quickly searched his memory for the right spell to stop his ridiculous body motions "Finite Incantatem" Garrus said pointing his wand at himself.

"Right slytherin slime I'm going to enjoy this duel, your my partner and this time you wont get pity from me when you fall or rather, when I knock you over"

With that he moved closer to shake her hand, offering one hand but arming the other he pulled out his wand behind her and said "Multicorfors" which turned Marie Bright pink clearly visible at first to all but Marie.

Marie couldnt help but let out a snigger at Garrus's flailing limbs. Her stance turned threatening when she heard him utter

"Right slytherin slime I'm going to enjoy this duel, your my partner and this time you wont get pity from me when you fall or rather, when I knock you over" in retaliation.

Smiling the brunette laughed and growled a low "I can do much worse than knock you over" Hoping the teacher wouldnt get angry at their abrupt duel she wrung her wand hand forward pointing at Garruss and said

"SERPENSORTIA!"

a large python shot out from her wand.

SERPENSORTIA

Garrus stood and watched as Marie raised her wand to cast her spell being ready to counter if needed, Garrus heard the incantation and quickly dove aside so as to not get tackled by the airborne snake being projected from Marie's wand

Upon regaining balance from dashing out of the way of the python, Garrus quickly pointed at the snake and said "Vipera Evanesca"

The snake vanished instantly and Garrus then quickly turned to Marie and shouted "Expelliarmus" causing her wand to fly over and land on the stage next to the Teacher. Following the wand in mid air Garrus's eyes finally met that of Mr Mendelind.

Jake stared in surprise at the two students who had started dueling already. Now that was more like it! Taking the initiative! Perfect! Jake grinned happily as he sat on the stage, watching as the two dueled with some skill. They weren't half bad, really. Jake was much better, of course, but they weren't bad, either.

Looking around, he saw that the other students were watching the duel taking place, but Jake let loose a sharp whistle to get their attention. "Go on then, you wankers! Take a page out of their book and start dueling! Go!" he yelled, clapping his hands together with a happy grin.

This was much easier than teaching Transfiguration, he had to admit. Much, much easier. All he had to worry about was someone causing someone else some injuries, but he'd worry about that when it happened.

Much to Garrus's surprise, the teacher not only wasn't mad at them for fighting but then encouraged the behaviour. Garrus immediately though to himself this is going to be a fun club.

He swiftly swooshed his wand casting "Wingardium Leviosa" and picked up Marie's wand from next to the teacher and flinging it back to Marie letting go of it above her head so it had time to fall and he himself had time to prepare himself.

"Ok Slytherin, so your great at underhanded racing what's your take on losing duels"

With a flick of his wand Garrus lashed out casting "Incarcerous" causing ropes to fly out and entangle Marie. As Marie stood immoblised by ropes, Garrus followed up with a "Flagrante Curse" causing the ropes around Marie to burn her skin as she brushed off of them, in an attempt to escape.

"It can only get worse for you Marie. Tell me when your ready to quit"

"Excuse me." Eerie murmured, slipping into the classroom with a low sigh. But, as she looked up, a small blush spread across her face, seeing that class had started already.  She coughed awkwardly, also noticing she interrupted a duel between two of her classmates.... Damn. She couldn't even remember their names. Something that started with a 'G' and a 'M'. 

"Finite Incantatum." Eerie whispered, a soft light surrounding her wand before the ropes surrounding the girl was dropped, while a quick and muttered, "Vulnera Sanentur." healed the minor burn wounds the girl had on her person. She smiled sheepishly and scampered up to the teacher, an apologetic look on her face. "I'm sorry I'm late. Even a Sixth Year like me can get lost sometimes." 

She wasn't going to mention that she had a horrible memory and it hadn't improve even when she spent nearly six years learning how to speak Latin and French. French because it was such a pretty language... And she got bored. Nope, she wasn't going to say that at all. She was embarrassed at it was, she didn't need her horrible memory coming back to bite her in her arse.

"My name is Eerie. Eerie Monet." She half smiled.

"I'm sorry I'm late. Even a Sixth Year like me can get lost sometimes." Jake blinked and looked down at the girl who had approached him, apologizing for being late. He shrugged, not really bothered, as he didn't really care. "My name is Eerie. Eerie Monet."

"Well, eerie Eerie," Jake said, gesturing for the group of students. "Either sit down and watch, or find a partner and start dueling. Alright, people, keep dueling!" he said as he clapped his hands together to get those who had stopped dueling when the girl had come in to start again.

Maybe he should get a whistle? Whistles were pretty cool. It would certainly make those closest to him in the room jump if he suddenly blew a whistle as hard as he could...

Garrus stood wand semi up watching Marie's torture, as the ropes emitted a burning tingle as they brushed off of her skin. So focused on how he had the advantage he barely noticed the later coming girl enter the room. The girl was fairly small couldn't have been more then 5 ft 5".She didn't look that much older then that of the girls in his own year. The girl made her way across the room before whipping out her wand.

Garrus watched as Marie was freed from the ropes and healed of her wounds. Garrus found himself almost tempted to lash out at the new girl, had he not already been engaged in a duel. That and taking on two opponents would end horribly for him.

As quickly as she came in, she scampered off again. Garrus's eyes followed her for a few seconds, while he scowled at her and muttered under his breath, about the unfair interruption that had just occurred. He Hastily snapped his attention back to Marie, who was now fresh and ready to go again and if he knew Marie, and he did know Marie, she would make him suffer for the stunt he just pulled.

Raising his wand again, bracing himself for the oncoming assault.

The ropes Garrus had cursed her with burned her skin, anger bubbled inside the slytherin, as she tried to fight against them to move her wand. Biting her lip Marie thought about surrendering, but her slytherin ambition got the best of her. The brunettes eyes suddenly stared behind Vakarian and focused on a smaller girl.

"Finite Incantatum." The older hufflepuff whispered and healed her very minor burns before going to speak to the teacher. Marie smiled internally and straightened her posture, letting out a loud mocking laugh at Garrus's face, she lifted her shoulders as if to say "what can you do" and said aloud,

"I guess fates not on your side today, honey" She lifted her wand hand and casting a very forceful
"Impedimenta!" Nocking him off his feet and immobilising him for a couple of seconds she quickly took advantage by casting an "Incendio" on the bottom of his robes.

Garrus Crashed to the ground after being knocked back by Marie, where he lay helplessly as flames slowly fly up his Cloak. He wished the Hufflepuff girl would help him for a change, but swiftly dispelled the thought from his mind as he focused on movement. The fire slowly crept up his cloak until finally he regained mobility, at which point he pointed at the ever incoming flames burning away at his cloak and said "Aguamenti", causing water to spray from his wand and douse the fire.

Garrus then being on the down foot of a bad situation decided to try something risky. Garrus Disapparated with a loud popping noise and then apparated across the room behind Marie standing upright on his feet. Having turned a bad situation around he then followed up with a " Levicorpus" spell, used on Maries ankle. Garrus stood as he shook Marie in Mid air Until she dropped her wand and everything else she had on her.

Fearing all the blood would go to Marie's head Garrus released his spell binding her to the air Garrus then quickly cast "Accio"on her bringing the unarmed Marie to his side catching her as she flung towards himself she placed her on her feet. as she stood before him giving him the evils he extended his wand once more and said "Orchideous" causing a bouquet of flowers to erupt from his wand

" No Hard feelings right ? "

Eerie giggled quietly, enjoying the mock duel... the two Hogwartians' were doing. It seemed enjoyable, so she straightened up and put on a determined face. She would find someone to duel with... this time her face sunk as a metaphysical cloud of doom settled over her head. "That would include magic." She grumbled, wondering once again why she let Leina talk her into joining this club. Maybe it was because her friend was tired of her complaining about how much magic was used in school.

But. She had no choice in this. She had already signed up.

"Yo. Eerie, yeah?" A slow, drawling voice made her spin around. Now, in front of her, stood a Slytherin- if his tie had anything to say- smirking as if he had found easy pray... something that made her scowl. "Yes. What do you want?" She wasn't usually this rude, but when Slytherins were about, it was usually the Hufflepuffs that suffered.

"You're looking for a partner, yeah? Wanna be mine?" His black eyes held a gleam that put her immediately on edge. Eerie slowly clenched her fingers, trying not to show her caution. He would take advantage of that. "Yes. I am. But... do I know you?" The boy smirked again, sliding a hand into his pocket to finger his wand.

"No. Hufflepuffs-" She could almost feel the distaste on his tongue. "Don't have classes with most Slytherins. But- I'm Rhein Feild." That was a weird name... not that she had a right to talk. I mean, who has a name like Eerie? So she threw her caution to the wind and narrowed gray eyes. "Sure. But try anything, and I'm cursing you into the infirmity." Though that was what you were suppose to do today.

The Slytherin gave a mocking bow. "Whatever you say, milady." They both bowed, before their wands snapped up, aimed at each other with deadly accuracy. "Ready when you are... Hufflepuff."

Jake clapped when he saw the fifth-year boy's cloak catch on fire. With a bit of luck, the flames would eat all of his robes, and he'd be left naked. Now, Jake wasn't a homosexual, so he would take no pleasure from seeing the boy naked. However, it would be very, very, very amusing to see how embarrassed the boy would be.

Jake chuckled, checking his watch. They were almost done for the day. Nodding to himself, Jake pulled out his wand and silently conjured a whistle, which he blew into, giving off a shrill screech that halted all activity. Jake stood up on the stage, chuckling again.

"Alright, lads and lassies," Jake said as he clapped. "A good first day, I'd say. Give yourselves a hand. Go on, do it." As the students clapped uncertainly for themselves, Jake closed his eyes. "Alright, only one thing left to do, I suppose," he said and took a deep breath. "THANKS FOR COMING! SEE YOU ALL NEXT TIME!"

With that shout, Jake sat down on the stage again.

Marie frowned as she was dropped infront of Garrus her curls had fallen over her face, she quickly pushed them back and her frown deepened as Garrus brought up a bouquet of flowers which she tentatively took, clutching the bouquet to her chest she squinted her eyes before grumbling a "until next time". The slytherin wouldn't admit to being a sore loser instead she promised herself she would be better next time.

Hearing the professor dismiss the club the brunette retrieved her wand and slung her bag over her shoulder, heading for the door.

"No doubt my friends will ask about these" she thought looking down at her bouquet.
