Lesson one : Fifth Years (Girding Potion)

Mila sat in the large dark oak chair in the front of the room, and elbows rested on the arms, her fingers intertwined in front of her. A wand was writing on the board in the front of the room, the name, ‘Professor Mila Chmerkovskiy’, was now written on the board, the wand moved over to the desk and gently placed itself down in front of the professor. Mila held her head up sightly as she surveyed the empty classroom; she was looking forward to starting off another year at Durmstrang Institute.

Mila stood up from her chair and walked around the front of her desk, her finger grazing the edges. Once she made her way to the front of her desk she sat down, her fingers gripping the over lip of the desk, her shoulders hunched over ever to slightly. She sighed, looking over at the board, she flicked her wrist, the wand rising to the board once more, Cauldrons Out and Remain Silent, the wand then returned to it's resting position. By this time most of the class had already come into the class room. She turned her attention back to the class.

"I am Professor Chmerkovskiy." Her heavy Russian was very apparent. "I expect you to be quiet while I speak. If you cannot, then expect the consequences." She tapped her fingers against the table. "Do you understand?" She didn't wait for any responses. "Now, for the first lesson we are going to be making the Girding Potion, do any of you know what the Girding Potion does?"

Ayame was in the classroom before anyone else by a good ten minutes. After ten minutes of checking her cauldron very cautiously and carefully, not only was she not able to find anything wrong with it, but students starting filing in the class. Thank Merlin, this cauldron was starting to get really boring.

This was her third lesson of the year and so far everything was going good. She knew that her aunt, Fröken Tsuji, the school Healer would be pleased to hear about this.

"Now, for the first lesson we are going to be making the Girding Potion, do any of you know what the Girding Potion does?"

The Japanese girl sighed sheepishly, she knew this potion sounded familiar, she had definitely read about it. But alas, she could not remember what the potion did. As she inwardly scolded herself for not knowing something so simple, her brown hues travelled around the class, jumping from person to person to see if she was the only one who didn't know. Perhaps in the time no one raised her hand, she would remember. But after a couple of minutes, the only thing Ayame could regain from her memory was that it should be a golden colour if done correctly. Damn it, she should've reread the text book last night like she her aunt told her she should have done..

Mila looked around the classroom, her eyes scanning the full classroom; no hands were raised. She raised and eyebrow, and flicked her wrist, the potions book on her desk flipped itself open, the pages turning on their own. "Well I see no one read the text book." She sighed, her eyes scanning the room once more. "Open your books to page 394. You will find the everything you need on the next few pages." She glanced down at the text book then back to her students. "However, I prefer you listen, and only refer to your text if you get lost."

The professor stood from the sitting position on the front of the desk and walked around the classroom stopping at a few tables, to see that the students brought with them to necessary items for the class. All the students brought the items listened to them before the school year had begun. "The Girding Potion gives the user of the potion extra endurance." She made her way back to the front of her desk, turning around and facing the class room, with another flick of her wrist her wand floated over to the blackboard, scribbling more words.

When the wand had finished scribbling the words onto the blackboard, it returned to it's resting position on the desk.

"Maybe one of you would at least know the color of the Girding Potion, yes?" She asked, her eyebrow raised as she scanned the classroom, waiting for a hand to rise.

"Well I see no one read the text book." Oh no! The professor really thought that no one had read the text book. She couldn't help but to form a frown on her lips as her eyebrows furred in disappointment in herself. This was just not acceptable. "Open your books to page 394. You will find the everything you need on the next few pages. However, I prefer you listen, and only refer to your text if you get lost."

Ayame nodded slightly, more so to herself as she noted mentally that this text book were to be her bible for this class. She would listen as hard as she could so she would not make a mistake the first time. She promised herself she wouldn't make any mistakes, she wasn't able to afford it. The Durmstrang fifth year had her OWLs this year. There was no room for error. In the back of her head, she knew that she actually wasn't that great at potions at all, but there was no room for negativity, no was there?

"Maybe one of you would at least know the color of the Girding Potion, yes?"

She knew this one, thank Merlin. After raising her hand and awaiting the professor to call on her, she smiled sweetly. "The Girding Potion's colour is more of a golden yellow."
